What kind of music are you currently listening to?
Lately, we have one kind of music playing in our home. Thanks to my one year old.
That is the band The Dead South.
Oh, you were expecting something like Baby Shark? The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Not a modern bluegrass band?
I mean he likes those songs. We did, in fact, go through a Baby Shark phase. And he is always down for a round of If You’re Happy and You Know it or those lost little baby ducks.
But now it is all The Dead South, all the time. He is obsessed with them. He especially likes their song Good Company and asks for it regularly.
When he watches the music video, he dances along with them. He’s even trying to learn how to snap because they snap their fingers during that song. He doesn’t know how to say very many words but he sure tries to sing along!

My boy isn’t at the age where he can sit through a whole Bluey episode yet, but we can put on a Dead South concert and he sits there and watches the entire thing.
He has his own little miniature guitar and one of his favorite things to do is to “play” along with them. So far he has figured out how to hold it properly and strum, which isn’t too bad for 13 months old.
So who are The Dead South?
They are a bluegrass band. Four members. Cello, Mandolin, guitar, and of course, banjo. Their songs are catchy. I enjoy listening to them, which is good because that’s all we listen to.
If we try listening to something else, he gives us the look. He knows.
Here’s a link to his favorite song: The Dead South – In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company
Enjoy!
If you had to listen to one band on repeat, what band or song would you choose?
