Level Up Your Prose with Writing Classes

No matter where you are on your writing journey, writing classes can be a  huge benefit. Sometimes, writing classes will teach you a new skill. It might help you focus on your craft. Classes can often inspire your writing. I often leave conferences with a renewed excitement for my stories.

There are a lot of places where you can find classes.

Writer’s Conferences

Writer’s conferences are a great way to take classes on writing. You can also connect with other writers! There are some conferences in person and others are online. There are large writer’s conferences and smaller ones. Some that specialize in specific genres such as romance or kid lit.

In March, I will be teaching at a great conference in Eagle Mountain. It’s going to be a great one!

Movie and Book Conventions

Another place to find classes on writing is conferences about movies and books. Here in Utah, they have a yearly event called Fanx. While there are a lot of fun activities and vendors at those events, there are also a lot of panels on books and writing. Another great one is Dragonsteel Nexus, which is an event focused on my favorite author. This year, there were a lot of inspiring writing panels at Dragonsteel Nexus.

Classes on the Internet

You can also find a lot of great writing classes on the internet. Youtube has a ton of resources for writers. There are also a lot of great writing podcasts out there. Writing Excuses is a great one.

Classes for Editors

When it comes to learning about writing, sometimes it helps to think outside of the box.  My writing has grown the most when I have taken classes on editing. There are places such as the EFA that offer classes to help editors. While the classes helped me improve my editing, they also allowed me to see my own writing with new eyes.
